Yesterday, we found a great source for Pipa Fria. There is a coconut tree in our community. We had to find a big stick to hit the young coconut, and catch it quickly when it hit the ground so it wouldn't roll down the hill, and also so that we could it upright and not lose very much juice from the crack resulting from the impact of falling.
So, it was a bit of work but worth it! We declare this Coco Loco week because there's more on the tree for picking another way.

Our source dried up...a tree only has so many fruits at a time. So, enter Moncho! He runs the campsite but the beach we walk on daily, and he sells these for 300 colones ~$.60.

Coconut water is the juice in the interior or endosperm of young coconut. The water is one of the nature’s most refreshing drinks consumed worldwide for its nutritious and health benefiting properties.
Its juicy water is usually obtained by opening a tender, green, healthy, and undamaged coconut. The liquid is clear, sweet, and sterile and composed of unique chemicals such as sugars, vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, enzymes, amino acids, cytokine, and phyto-hormones.

I googled "What Are the Dangers of Drinking Young Coconut Water Everyday?"
ReplyDeletehttp://www.livestrong.com/article/369190-what-are-the-dangers-of-drinking-young-coconut-water-everyday/
Coconut water has become a popular product for the health-minded set over the last couple of years. Coconut itself is being touted as a "superfood" and its water - sometimes referred to as juice - is said to naturally hydrate in a far superior way to sports drinks. But as with any food or drink, too much of a good thing can be bad. Possible side effects of drinking coconut water too often may include triggering blood sugar issues, excessive urinating, weight gain, and developing an allergy.
HIGH IN SUGAR...If you suffer from diabetes or low blood sugar levels, drinking coconut water everyday could have a negative impact on your health.
DIURETIC EFFECT...While coconut water in smaller amounts is known to hydrate, since it is a diuretic, there is a small possibility that drinking it too much could cause dehydration.
MAY LEAD TO WEIGHT GAIN...many who consume these drinks don't necessarily need them because they are not athletes. Therefore, they aren't burning off the carbohydrates or calories that an athlete would. Drinking pure water would be a better choice.
MAKE CAUSE AN ALLERGY...Rotating foods throughout the week is a way to keep this from happening.

It's been called "nature's Gatorade" for its electrolyte-replacement qualities, it's fat free, and (at least in the opinion of some people, like me) it's delicious. But is coconut water...actually that great for you? Should you consume it more often than you would, say, actual Gatorade?
Good news is it’s many good attributes including “coconut water is a great source of potassium, a nutrient also found in foods such as bananas and potatoes that helps regulate blood pressure. And if you buy the unsweetened brands, it has less sugar than most fruit juices and energy drinks. That said, it is quite sweet naturally.
That said, if you are pounding coconut water as an alternative to regular water, thinking you're doubling up on water and extra vitamins for your health, you should probably stop. Not only are you consuming extra calories, but also new research has shown that sugar causes inflammation in the body, which in turn can lead to chronic diseases. Dietitian Amy Jamieson-Petonic, director of wellness coaching at Cleveland Clinic, says for this reason, "Occasionally drinking coconut water is fine, but I would not recommend it as a beverage."”
Coconut Water: A New Health Food?

Coconut water, unlike coconut milk, is not high in fat nor does it break the calorie bank. An 8-ounce serving of coconut water has 46 to 60 calories, whereas the same amount of coconut milk has 552 calories. Coconut water is loaded with minerals including potassium, magnesium, manganese, and phosphorus. What’s more, the minerals in coconut water have the same electrolytic balance that we have in our blood.
Potassium helps to balance sodium’s water-retaining properties. It also helps to prevent high blood pressure as shown in the DASH Diet trials.
